The Megabyte MidSouth District tried running its Inaugural Championship in conjunction with the DIYRA Portsmouth Championship at Muscle Shoals Sailing Club, Florence, Alabama on Saturday and Sunday, October 13-14.
Only two Megabytes showed, so they sailed in the Portsmouth Division with #207 (Mark van Stolk) finishing 4th while #190 (Allan Lumm) finished 11th out of 17 dinghies.
Muscle Shoals ran a great regatta with a wonderful party and good food. The two boats drew a lot of attention with several sailors from other classes showing interest to buy Megabytes of their own. We will try holding the event again next year - hopefully the new interest will provide us for the critical mass to get the class firmly rooted in the Mid-South and to draw the existing boats to the event!
