As Southeast Fleet Captain, I would like to personally thank all of the competitors and the Race Committee and sponsors for their enthusiasm and support for this event. As you may know, this is the longest running Megabyte Regatta and has consistently had great conditions and competition during it's run. This year was no exception. Peter Strong, Director of the US Sailing Center with the assistance of several members of the US Sailing Center Junior Sailing Team ran the regatta for us. It was really great to see the younger sailors assisting with scoring and running the crash boats. They are the future of our sport and their efforts were very much recognized and appreciated by all of the competitors. We tried a new format and location this year in an effort to spike some interest in the class and encourage participation. The regatta was run in a single day format with a low entry fee, shorter courses and more races. Trophies were awarded to the top 3 competitiors and participation awards were given to all other competitors. The goal was for everyone to go home with something to remember the day by. This format was very well recieved by all involved and we are looking at doing the same again next year. The conditions for the regatta were perfect, with a building breeze and clear skies throughout the day. Racing was tight placing a premium on good starts and skillful mark roundings. Congratulations to Greg Berger who proved again that he was the one to beat. The rest of the fleet once again proved to be very competitive with second through fourth place being separated by just one point. Please find the results and some photos below. there is a link at the bottom of the page if you would like to view the complete set of 47 photos of the racing.
